Majority of tenants prefer a short term tenancy

According to a recent study by online letting agent, MakeUrMove, and contrary to Government proposals, only 7.2 percent of UK tenants stated that they prefer a longer tenancy as opposed to a shorter one. Studies found that 30% of tenants want tenancies to last 12 months and a further 20% want tenancies to last for no longer than two years. This suggests that many tenants prefer for landlords to offer flexibility when it comes to the length of a tenancy.

Most tenants sign a 12 month tenancy agreement, with a six month break clause and research has found that nearly a third of tenants are happy with this. Tenants either want the flexibility of a short term rental or the security of a much longer tenancy.
